Hello there. I’m Alana – a late-diagnosed Autistic woman, with a passion for creating Autistic-friendly websites.
Back in 2019, quite organically in response to – what I now know was – Autistic burnout, I started designing websites that are gentle on the nervous system – calming, understated, easy to navigate and infused with beauty and transparency. From here my kind design philosophy was born.
Since then, I’ve built 100+ websites for small businesses across Australia, the United States, Canada and beyond using this methodology.

Autistic people often process sensory information more intensely and if our brains are taking in more information or demands than they can process this can lead to cognitive overload. Cognitive overload can make it difficult to focus, make decisions or complete tasks and can become so draining that it leads to shut downs and meltdowns. As such, Autistic-friendly website design focuses on calm layouts with predictable navigation and digestible sections. Colour palettes should be chosen with sensory overwhelm and accessibility in mind. Things like pop ups, auto-play videos and a lot of animations should be excluded from the design. It also means honest, transparent copywriting that is free of pain-points and fake urgency tactics.
But it’s not just about the visitor, when designing Autistic-friendly websites, we also need to think about the Autistic business owner. Things like a step-by-step, no guess process throughout the website creation to ease the nervous system. And a website that is intuitive and simple for the business owner to update.
