About the project

Permaculture South Australia is a grassroots, volunteer-powered nonprofit that's been sharing practical skills for sustainable living across SA for over 40 years.

This pro bono project began with a mini brand refresh. While they brought along their original logo and super cute illustrations, we helped refine their colour palette — making it feel playful while meeting requirements for the digital space. The result is a welcoming brand that feels fun and energetic.

The new website was built using our Earth one-week website base design — made specifically for environmental nonprofits — which gave us a perfect starting point to create a user-friendly and mission-driven online home.

Their old WordPress site had become clunky and hard to manage, so we migrated everything to Squarespace for a much easier experience.

With Squarespace’s intuitive backend and our helpful training videos, their volunteer team is now empowered to make future updates easily.

We configured e-commerce for their online shop so they can sell permaculture books and resources directly through the site.

One of our favourite aspects of the site: the horizontal timeline scroller on the About page – is a super clever way to showcase key milestones across their 40+ year history

We loved partnering with this passionate crew of volunteers. The result is a warm, hopeful and dynamic space that welcomes visitors in, invites them to take action and celebrates the regenerative work happening across South Australia.
